Striving to be the Proverbs 31 Woman

Have you ever read Proverbs 31 and felt like you will never measure up to her qualities? I feel that way a lot. On some days I feel like I am a perfect picture of what I am supposed to be and some days I don’t even come close. The more I thought about it, the less I tried to be her. I mean, she is the “perfect” wife and I am very human.

I have bad days where I don’t even want to get out of bed, much less make it.

I avoid the laundry, shop without planning, and argue with my husband.

When Proverbs was penned I don’t think God intended for it to be this unobtainable checklist of things we are supposed to do. For me, it is the heart we are supposed to strive for.  We are going to make mistakes, we are going to have bad days and be the furthest thing from the ideals. That doesn’t mean we give up.  “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Hebrews 12:1-2a

Learning How to Forgive

1 Peter 2:24

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

When we are wronged it is so easy to add it to the imaginary list that we keep. When that person wrongs us again we pull out the list and we have to talk about every wrong that person has ever done to us. Image if Christ did that to us. I know for me I would be setting there a long time before he was finished. I am thankful instead he just died for me, was buried and rose again.  My sins are forgiven through his blood.

I have a really good memory.  Most of the time having a good memory is a good thing but other times not so good.  It makes it hard to let things go.  This has made it hard to get close to people because I expect so much from them.  I expect that others think and remember like me but they don’t.  With my husband it has made disagreements escalate to all out wars.  It has taken a lot of time and effort to learn how to forgive.   Below are the top three things I did to learn how to forgive.Continue Reading

The Need for Unity in the Church

Can you see the need for unity in the Church? I look around our world today and see how people … people that are calling themselves Christians are attacking one another over such trivial things.  Like if the church has pew or chairs, if there is a cross at the front of the church, or if there are guitars and drums being played in the church.  In a family, you might pick on one another.  But if anyone tries to pick on one of the family you will fight for them.

There are important things, things we should not budge on, such as:
  1. The Bible was written by man but God inspired.
  2. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
  3. That Christ was the Son of God
  4. That Christ truly died, was place in a tomb, and rose again.

We don’t want to overlook doctrine.  There are biblical principles that we cannot waver on because the Bible tells us exactly the way it should be.  Christ wants us to live in unity with fellow believers.

We need to examine ourselves and ask “Are we hurting our testimony with those in the world”. Are we attacking one another to be right as the world is watching? Because they are watching and waiting to see what we are doing.  They want to be giving a chance to embrace or attack us.  We, the church, need to be united in the name of the Gospel.  The gospel is what can change the world.  If we live our lives in the light of the gospel we will be the light of the world. When other people see that we live differently they will see Jesus in us.
