Surrender: Christ’s Example for Us

I am laying in my bed tonight …with icy hot, heating pad and Advil pm. I hurt my neck and shoulder some how, not sure what I did maybe I just slept on it wrong.  I really just didn’t want to do my devotions. And then I hear in my head my husband talking about surrender and your commitment to God. How important is God to us?  This is what he has been talking to the teens about.  Very convicting subject,  some days it is hard to surrender.  I know I need to do it but some days my flesh is weak.  When I went over to it gave me the following definition for surrender.

to give (oneself) up to some influence, course, emotion, etc.:

Surrender: Christ’s Example for Us

After thinking about what surrender means I realize that I was surrendering to the wrong thing… pain.

I am so glad that Jesus did not think the way I did when he was being beaten and put on the cross for my many sins. He endured all of our sins on his broken body. Even his Father forsook him because of all the sins that were put on him. Matthew 27:46 He could have chosen to end it at any point, but because he loved us so he finished it. And three days later he became the victor over death and proved me the option of the free gift of eternal life. All I have to do is believe. He saved me from an eternity in hell and replace it with an eternity of life with him in heaven. All I have to do is just believe with simple faith in his death, burial and resurrection.Continue Reading

Memorial Day: Taking Time to Remember

This weekend is special for so many reasons. For many, this is the first time the grill is fired up, the pool is splashing, and the shopping deals are on. Personally, this weekend means tomato picking, salsa making, and canning. I urge you to reflect on what this day really means. Please spend some time thinking of those who died to make us free.

To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans “To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to ‘Taps.” (source: Memorial Day History) While our nation has its’ problems it is still a GREAT nation. We are free because of the sacrifice of others. Wives lost husbands, children lost parents, parents lost kids just so we can be free.

One of my favorite shows is Army Wives. If you have never gotten into this show, it is great. Right now Netflix is carrying it so you can watch it from the beginning.  It shows you an inside peak of what military life is like and the sacrifices soldiers makes on a daily basis. I had the chance to live near Fort Bragg, NC and feel blessed to have met so many soldiers and their families. I went to a few Memorial Day services there and they are very well done. Military towns know how to respect their fallen and teach you about the history that makes our nation so great.

So, please enjoy your weekend but also remember to have a quiet moment of reflection to thank God and those who have given their life so we can live as we choose.

Denying Oneself – What Have You Given Up for Christ?

0554f194e0adb59b140540382b7915a2What have you given up for Christ? Everyday we represent Christ and His church. Every action and every word out of our mouth either helps or hurts our Christian testimony. There are things we do that may not be wrong, but for Christ’s sake we need to give them up. When was the last time that you apologized and asked for forgiveness for something that might have not been you fault, just for the sake of Christ? We need to put our pride aside and think only of Christ.

Luke 9:23-24
Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it

There is a whole world out there that is looking at us Christians to see how we will react to the things around us.  Unfortunately, there are some in the name of Christ that have turned many people away from Christ because of their actions.  Many times it is not something they mean to do.  There are some things that we need to stand up against no matter what. such as murder, crime, denial of Christ in any way, shape or form.  Then there are things that are not so important and for the sake of Christ we must put aside.

Denying Oneself – What Have You Given Up for Christ?

Below are 5 things to think about when you are deciding if you should just give it up:

  1. What does the Bible say about it?
  2. Would you do it if Christ was there with you?
  3. Does it build people up or pull them apart?
  4. What does it tell others about Christ?
  5. Who benefits from it? and why?

We are to take the gospel it all of the world, but if we are keeping others from seeing Christ because of something we are doing we need to give it up.
