My Thoughts

This devotional is definitely for married couples.

I would recommend this book for newlywed couples.  I like that there are activities and things to do as a couple, these things are call The Bridge.  The Bridge is meant to bridge what you have learned  in the book with how you can live it out.   I like how it walks through Song of Solomon and really brings things together for a modern marriage.

I think the author makes a great point in the beginning of week 1:

We don’t often talk about subjects like love, sex, and intimacy in church.

And then again hits on the subject in week 2:

….that sometimes seems difficult for us to accept,  is that sex was God’s idea.  He didn’t just give reluctant permission.  He didn’t just give a begrudging consent. He blessed the act. I think we too often forget that in this day and age.  We think somehow that God and sex don’t go together.  But make no mistake about it: sex was God’s idea.

I know for the 21 years before I was married it was drilled into my head that only bad girls have sex.  A good Christian girl does not do such things before marriage.  And I agree sex should wait for marriage.  Neither my husband and I had sex before we got married, but I had a really hard time getting pass the fact that now that I was married it was ok and even good.  I have struggled with intimacy most of my 22 years of marriage and part of it is because I still have a hard time see sex as a good thing.

I love the idea of this book.  I also am glad that they have  The Song Church Kit.  I would love to see this used at churches across the country.

The devotional The Song: Awaken Love is based off the movie The Song, which is coming out soon to DVD.Inspired by the Song of Solomon, The Song is both a full-length movie and resource for churches to explore God’s plan for relationships, love and marriage.

Here is the title song from the artist Alan Powell. It is so beautiful.

I love this post Joanna!! The book sounds excellent and I will definitely check it out! You have hit on SUCH an important issue - the church avoids sex as though it is bad, but in the right context, it is marvelously holy! I coach women on getting over their blocks toward sexual intimacy after years of believing it is bad; I wish you peace and many blessings on your journey with this! :) Much love, Jackie
