How to Pray Using the Prayer A.C.T.S. Method

Sharing is caring!

Ever feel like you just don’t know what to say when you start to pray?

I feel like that sometimes even though I have been a Christian for almost 20 years. One way I start my talk with God is through something called Prayer A.C.T.S. Today I want to share with you how to pray with this simple easy to remember technique.

How to Pray Using the Prayer ACTS method

How to Pray When You Don’t Know Where to Start

Sometimes I know exactly what I want to talk to God about. Something has been heavy on my heart and I want to tell God about it. Sometimes I just don’t have the words to say or don’t know how to start.

Don’t let not knowing what to say prevent you from talking to God. God knows what we are thinking before out words come out of mouth. He doesn’t even need to hear our words. I think we, as humans, need to hear the words. My relationship with God is a two-way street. He talks to me through his Word and through the Holy Spirit and I talk to him through prayer.

Prayer is much more than a wish list, it is a conversation with our Maker.

How to Pray with Prayer A.C.T.S

This method does not have a time set for each section. Sometimes when I am feeling down, I rush through the Adoration, Confession, and Thanksgiving because something is heavy on my heart. Sometimes I dwell on adoration because I need to take the focus off of me. You do prayer your way, this is just a guide.

Adoration – Before anything else. tell God how much you love him. It can be as simple as that or you can expound and talk about how great He is, His power, His Grace. You can use simple words or for this part I like using the book of Psalms. Music can be added to this part (or any part really), there are so many worship songs out there that really let me praise God!

Confession – Next ask for forgiveness for anything sinful you have done. Ask God to search your heart and find any not pure in your heart. Along with confession comes repentance. Repentance means that you decide to forsake or get rid of the behavior in your life.

Acts 3:19 says, “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out“.

Thanksgiving –  Next is Thanksgiving. Thank God for whatever you choose. Answered prayer, your salvation, your family, friends, food, anything.

If you are having one of those days where finding something to be thankful for is hard, try writing a list of basic needs like waking up, breathing, having food, shelter, family, friends.

Supplication –  Supplication is defined as the action of asking for something earnestly or humbly. This is the time to ask God for things for yourself and others. God is control of our life and sometimes even asking God for something doesn’t mean it is going to happen. God answers prayers in His way, which is not our own. That doesn’t mean we don’t ask, it doesn’t mean God doesn’t listen.

I ask all the time to bless me with a baby. Right now and maybe forever, His answer is no. I will still ask earnestly.
